Paranormal Activity

I am so wary of movies that have "buzz". People telling you you absolutely have to see this movie. Movies like Juno which to me played like someone's first screenplay. Well I went to see Paranormal Activity the other day and I must admit, I was really impressed. The actors and director, (the credits list only 3 people on the film) did a helluva job being average people. I'm really glad they didn't remake this movie. It would never have worked as a star vehicle. Like Quarantine was mediocre and REC was chilling. Or the way Ju-On and The Grudge both sucked. I am disappointed that there are different versions of the ending though. I really liked the movie up until the inexplicable ending. I just didn't really understand it. A friend of mine who lives in another country saw the original ending and it sounds much more satisfying. Scare the crap out of me. Make me sleep with the lights on for a week. Isn't that what you are supposed to do as a filmmaker? Startle, provoke? Go for it.
